‘Operation Last Patrol’

“Operation Last Patrol” was filmed in 1972 by Frank Cavestani and Catherine Leroy. The documentary depicts the historic cross-country journey of Ron Kovic and fellow members of Veterans Against the War (VVAW) from Los Angeles to Miami to challenge Richard Nixon and his Vietnam policies at the Republican National Convention in Miami, Florida.

Born in Wisconsin, USA, Ron Kovic was a 22-year-old sergeant in the Marines who was gravely wounded in Vietnam in 1968. He returned home paralyzed from the waist-down and became a vocal anti-war activist. He is the author of “Born on the Fourth of July,” the memoir that inspired the award-winning film under the same title directed by Oliver Stone (1989) with Tom Cruise in his role.
